Starter Kits

All the parts you need to make complete sticks. These make great presents if you don't know where to begin yourself and are overwhelmed by all the items on the DIY pages!

Please note that we do not have made-up kits to collect.

Each of the standard kits comes with basic instructions and you can be sure that all the parts are matched up. We now cut a peg on the top end of the shank and drilled a socket in the head/handle ready for gluing together.The blanks are roughly shaped so you still need to do a fair amount of work to get them finished. You can decide whether to leave the sticks 'natural' or oil or varnish them (no oil or varnish included).

I recommend the book: "TRADITIONAL STICKMAKING" by Charie Walker if you, or the person you are buying for, have never made sticks before.

The pictures below are there to show you what can be made with each kit - obviously your own tools and skill level will determine exactly how your stick finishes up! Wood types/colours will vary depending on stock.

Stick Kit 1

Regency Walking Stick

Contains 1 straightened shank with preshaped dowel peg, 1 pre-drilled hardwood handle blank, 1 rubber ferrule, 1 pack of glue.

Skill required to make this stick: Basic beginner stick.

Handle blank needs gluing onto shank, using dowel peg provided. Handle needs rounding out with knife and/or rasp then sanding smooth. Shank needs lightly sanding and cutting to length. The complete stick needs oiling or varnishing, and ferrule fitting on tip. Time to complete stick around four to six hours.

Length of finished stick approximately 38" but can be cut shorter or left for you to cut. If you need it longer please ask.

Stag Fork Thumb
Hiking Stick

Contains 1 straightened shank with precut dowel peg, 1 pre-drilled staghorn fork with horn spacer and caps, 1 rubber ferrule, 1 pack of glue.

Skill required to make this stick: Slightly advanced novice stick - I wouldn't recommend it for a complete beginner.

Antler handle needs fixing on to shank, using dowel peg and glue provided.

Horn caps and spacer need fitting and filing then sanding smooth. Complete handle needs smoothing and polishing or varnishing. Shank needs oiling or varnishing, cutting to length and ferrule fitting on tip. Time to complete stick around four to six hours.
