Why use a Stick?

The Stick Man

LINKS PAGE

I've listed a few links to various businesses here that I can personally vouch for!

Some are stick-related and others are of general interest.

Are you interested is sea fishing? Mistress Sea Angling Charters (Whitby) take boat parties of up to 12 anglers - but you can book individual places most days - throughout the year (weather permitting). I've had some fantastic days sport with cod and ling, mackerel, whiting, pouting, gurnard and many more species and can vouch for the skill and dedication of the skipper, Rich Cope. Rods & reels can be hired on board if you don't have your own and bait and end rigs can be bought from the tackle shops in the harbour at Whitby. Check out the Mistress website

Do you suffer back or joint pains? Try medication-free treatment in Helmsley at the Natural Health Clinic which uses Emmett and Bowen therapies.

I can personally vouch for the effectiveness of the treatment and so can many friends and family members!

For an artist who will do pet prtraits and animals try Jane Cousins from North Yorkshire

For beautifully carved and painted sticks in North America try Ivan Wilson at Wilson Walking Sticks

If you require horns and other materials in the USA, try the Boone Trading Company

or this one Hide and Fur.com is good for antlers

Lucy Saggers takes delightful landscape and rural life professional photographs showing the area around my home town of Helmsley.

Pictures to help with carving are often dificult to find - my friends Carl Church and Dave Hornbrook are both international award winning taxidermists and have some fantastic pictures on their websites - great for close up shots of birds and other wildlife subjects. If you still can't find anything, try Google images - just type the name of the bird or animal you want and you should get many pictures to choose from - some may even be useful!

American customers may be interested in a website selling traditional Irish sticks and lots of other things with Irish connections too. I don't normally advertise other stick sites but this is a bit different and not really competition!

Hayden Boer Goats is an American site about breeding and selling goats, working Border Collies and making crooks.

Carving and turning tools and timber can be found at the Snainton Woodturning Centre which I use personally - it's only a half-hour drive from my home and I get most of my timber supplies from them. Good stocks of British timbers - lime, sycamore, beech, oak, ash etc - and an increasing stock of exotic timbers.

For top quality Bed and Breakfast in Helmsley I can recommend Number 54 Bondgate
The Carlton Lodge B&B
The Feathers Hotel
The Black Swan Hotel
Stilworth House B&B

I always ask for customer feedback if they stayed in Helmsley and these establishments are very highly rated.

For other accommodation in North Yorkshire why not look at the
Stay in North York Moors website?
and now their newer addition for
Yorkshire Lodges and Cabins

Helmsley is full of small, top quality retailers often selling individually crafted items and the kinds of purchases you can't make in other shopping centres and high streets elsewhere. Here are just a few of them I can personally recommend:

Libby Butler Jewellers

Saltbox Gallery

Hunters Delecatessen

Clarridges of Helmsley

Porters Coffee Shop

Birds of Prey Centre in Helmsley - well worth a visit! Only five minutes from my workshop by car so why not visit us both!

For Market Stalls like the one I use at shows try Nichol Industries in the UK.
